Nava is the Head of Printing and Production at Ketubah.com and married her wonderful husband, Jonathan, in March 2012. Here is their story:
“Leading up to the wedding, almost all of our friends must have asked us at one point or another if I was going to be making our ketubah, and how we would choose from all of the designs we have available to us at the studio? But to tell you the truth, this was probably one of the easiest decisions we had to make regarding the wedding! My wonderful aunt, Laya Crust, is a very talented artist and has designed many beautiful ketubot – some of them are even available on our website. We chose her “Persian Rose” design because we loved the intricacies of the artwork, and the Middle-Eastern colour palette. Our ketubah is now framed and hanging in our dining room – we love it!

On the subject of colour palettes, we really wanted our wedding to have an earthy, Middle-Eastern, almost Indian feel. We had a wonderful florist who was able to give us creative and beautiful suggestions as to how to incorporate our palette of golds, rich reds, and yellows. Jonathan’s vest and tie were a beautiful deep red, and the rest of the men in the wedding party wore a neutral champagne. I wore stunning amber jewelry that I had borrowed from my mother.
Probably the most time-consuming, and my favourite part, of my right-before-the-wedding-prep was my henna. A henna artist created an intricate pattern for me from the tips of my fingers up to just under my elbows, on both sides of my arms. It took about five hours, and made for a very late night right before the wedding, but it is such a beautiful Sephardi tradition, and it was so worth it. We also hid my husband’s Hebrew name (Yonatan Moshe Avraham) within the design. It is traditional to hide the groom’s name within the complex patterns of the henna, so he can try to find it on the wedding night… but we made it pretty obvious.”

It was my greatest pleasure to give you one of my ketubot. I love creating them. The rich colour and intricate patterning of Persian design is a favourite motif of mine. I would have been happy to create something original for you, but was thrilled that “Persian Rose” fit right into your wedding theme. with love, Laya Crust
