I met Laura way back in 10th grade on a shabbaton (a youth group weekend getaway) and our friendship has grown over the years. I was honored when she asked me to be her bridesmaid this past November and am so excited to share her and Jordan’s special day with all of you! Laura has had a love of all things things green, including frogs, ever since she can remember, so it was no surprise that both elements would take shape in her Jewish Wedding. Here is Laura and Jordan’s story:
“Our proposal story: My sister invited me and Jordan over for dinner. When I arrived early at her apartment to help her cook she realized she forgot a few ingredients and asked if I’d run with her to the supermarket down the street. On the way, I spotted someone in a frog costume holding a sign for a pet store opening. I have been obsessed with frogs ever since I was little and obviously couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to pose with the random frog on a busy NYC intersection. The frog man and I posed and took a photo, and I started walking to the grocery store but my sister told me to look at the picture first. When I said I thought it was fine she insisted I look again. Only then did I realize that right before the picture was taken the frog flipped the sign and it now read “I Love You Laura Will You Marry Me?” My frog prince then got down on one knee and proposed! Needless to say, I said yes.
When it came to planning our wedding, we have to be honest; our mothers did a lot of the wedding planning with me and Jordan giving our input. We had a fall wedding and chose colors to match. I picked chiffon hunter green as the dress color and material and let my bridesmaids pick their style dress. My mom picked the flowers and Jordan actually helped design two of the centerpieces. When visiting Israel to attend a friend’s wedding, I was tasked with picking up her Ketubah and I fell in love with the artist’s work and decided to order from him. He was so great, and was even able to incorporate a frog into the design. One of my personal pet peeves is not being able to see the couple during the chuppah, so it was important to me that we use a higher platform and a wider chuppah, and that we faced the crowd during the ceremony.

Some quirky things we did: we had random place cards with famous literary and film couples, we took benchers from our friends simchas, put stickers on them and placed them at their table, my father and I choreographed a father daughter dance to our favorite song, my family and Jordan changed into hunter green converse for dancing and we had a delicious frog wedding cake.”
