Love’s Passion Ketubah
by Debra Band
Ketubah Description
The motif of flowers painted in a highly naturalistic manner, as though casually tossed on a lapis lazuli background, is adapted from late medieval Burgundian manuscript design. The insets of abstract floral arabesques draw upon classical Turkish design. The fiery colors of the flowers, set against the deep blue background attempt to express the intense passion with which the lovers declare their love for one another in the passage bordering the artwork, drawn from The Song of Songs 8:6-7: 6
