Encircling Blessings Ketubah
by Ruth Stern Warzecha
Ketubah Description
As the bride encircles the groom under the chuppah, the design text is encircled by the seven traditional blessings recited at the wedding ceremony. This is followed by blessings from the marriage of Adam and Eve (Genesis 2.24). The vows spoken at the “betrothal” of God and Israel (Hosea 2.21-22) follow this. And a wedding poem by the 12th century philosopher Yehudah Halevy is also included. The historical spectrum of wedding quotes in Hebrew and English twirls colorfully around the design, creating an effect both simple and elegant.
