There is a new technology brewing; 3D Printing! But what is it all about? And how can you use it for your Jewish Wedding?
The first time I heard about 3D printing was in Project Runway’s 12th season. Fashion Designer Justin LeBlanc used 3D printing as an accessory to his designs. Then I watched an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in which Meredith Grey, general surgeon, is using 3D printing to print a fork, in the hopes that one day we can print valves.
But what exactly is 3D printing?
3D printing is a printer that “which churn out objects by laying thin layer after thin layer of metal, plastics or other materials on top of each other” as Huffington Post explains in their article, “3D Printing Has Started A Revolution“. This is Project Runway‘s Justin LeBlanc’s unconventional look made of test tubes and 3D printing. How about a wedding gown?
Another amazing use of 3D printing is to create artificial limbs! In the March 10th issue of People magazine featured the story of Mason Wilde, a 17 year old who built a hand for family friend’s son, Matthew, 9 years old, and boring without fingers on his right hand. 3D printing may give us the ability to cheaply print functioning limbs, just like Matthew’s fingers, for those in need, and within a few days.
